Crank Pedal Fatigue Testing Machine Applicable Standards
1.Bicycle Standards:
ISO 4210-8: Bicycles - Safety requirements (Part 8: Test methods for pedals and drive systems) - This standard clearly includes the dynamic fatigue test method for cranks, specifying the magnitude, direction, point of application of force and the number of cycles.
GB 3565: Safety Requirements for Bicycles (Chinese National Standard, corresponding to ISO 4210).
2.Electric bicycle standards:
GB 17761-2024: Safety Technical Specification for Electric Bicycles (Citing the requirements for cranks from relevant standards for bicycles).
EN 15194: European standard for electrically assisted bicycles. Special note: In mid-mounted motor models, the crank not only has to bear the force from human pedaling but also the counterforce of the motor-assisted torque. The test load is usually significantly higher than that of ordinary bicycles.
Test Objective
The core purpose of this equipment is to verify the strength and durability of the crank body and its connection with the middle shaft.
The main subjects and purposes under investigation include:
1. Crank arm fatigue strength:
Verify whether the crank arm (left/right) develops fatigue cracks or fractures in weak areas (such as around the pedal mounting holes, the bottom bracket connection end, and the middle of the crank arm) under repeated pedaling forces.
2. Connection interface strength:
Square hole/keyway connection: Verify whether the mating surfaces between the crank and the middle shaft have worn, loosened or developed fretting fatigue due to repeated loading.
One-piece crank: Verify the fatigue strength of the connection between the crank and the spindle of the bottom bracket (usually a pin or special tooth profile).
3.Strength of pedal threaded holes:
Verify whether repeated pedaling force causes deformation or loosening of the threaded holes for pedal installation.
4.Crank length rigidity:
Measure the bending deformation of the crank under a specific load to evaluate its bending stiffness.
