Description

The radial impact testing machine for wheels is a specialized device designed to simulate the impact resistance of wheels (the combination of tires and rims) when they hit road obstacles (such as potholes, curbs, and protrusions) during vehicle operation. For electric motorcycles and electric bicycles, the radial impact strength of the wheels is directly related to riding safety - rim fractures or severe deformations caused by impacts are among the main reasons for tire blowouts and loss of control.

Core Function

Simulate the impact force on the wheels when they encounter uneven roads or collide with obstacles, and test the anti-impact performance of the wheel hubs to ensure they meet safety standards .

It is applicable to the testing of light alloy wheels for bicycles, motorcycles, electric vehicles, and automobiles, covering both domestic and international brands (such as Yamaha, Honda, etc.).

Working Principle

The impact energy is adjusted by changing the impact height and the weight of the counterweight. The heavy hammer is allowed to fall freely through an electromagnetic release or a mechanical release mechanism to complete the impact test.

Some equipment supports secondary impact or 30° impact to simulate different working conditions.

Applicable Standards

Motorcycle/Electric Motorcycle Standards:

ISO 8644: Motorcycles - Light alloy wheels - Test methods (including radial impact test method, an international standard commonly used for electric motorcycles).

GB/T 22435: Light alloy wheels for motorcycles and electric bicycles (Chinese national standard, formulated with reference to ISO). JASO T 203: The test procedure for motorcycle wheels by the Japan Automobile Standards Organization.

Purchasing and Customization Suggestions

If you plan to configure such equipment, the following points are worth noting:

1.Stiffness and Resilience:The stiffness of the test machine frame and base is extremely crucial. If the frame is not stiff enough, the impact energy will be absorbed by the frame, resulting in a lower actual energy applied to the wheel and potentially distorted test results. It is recommended to pay attention to the equipment manufacturer's description of the finite element analysis of the frame.

2.Reliability of the release mechanism:

It is necessary to ensure that the heavy hammer does not tilt or rotate when released, and the verticality deviation should be less than 0.5°. Otherwise, the contact point between the impact edge and the tire will shift, affecting the repeatability of the test.

3.Secondary impact protection:

After the heavy hammer strikes the wheel, it sometimes bounces back and falls again. Standards usually allow the use of a stop mechanism to prevent secondary impact; otherwise, the test is invalid. When purchasing, it should be confirmed whether the equipment is equipped with a reliable secondary impact prevention device.

4.Data collection (optional):

If R&D analysis is required, it is possible to choose to be equipped with dynamic force sensors and high-speed data acquisition cards. This can capture the peak force waveform and the duration of the impact at the moment of impact, helping engineers calculate the instantaneous stiffness of the wheel.

5.Fixture adaptability:

Due to the different wheel axle diameters and hub spacings of electric bicycles and electric motorcycles, and the special way the hub motor's shaft end leads out the wires, it is recommended to purchase quickly replaceable shaft sleeves and flanges to save time when changing models.

If you have specific wheel specifications (such as wheel diameter, axle diameter, whether it is a spoked wheel or a hub motor), contact us to help you roughly estimate the required impact energy level, so as to screen out more suitable equipment models.
